If you have ever wondered what it’s like to sit on the summit of a mountain, sipping a glass of bubbles, while taking in the 360° views of Mt. Cook, Mt. Aspiring, The Remarkables and Lake Wanaka? Imagine air that’s so pure it takes your breath away, but you’re warm in front of a log fire.
This all takes place on the deck of the highest private hut in New Zealand, at 5000 feet above sea-level. Guided Walks New Zealand has exclusive rights to use this privately owned little piece of paradise near Wanaka.
The snowshoe tour includes transport from Queenstown and surrounds and the helicopter flight to the summit within 20 meters of the hut where you stay overnight. With your guide, the group explores the vast backcountry wilderness walking along the ridge lines, high above the clouds on the modern, sleek, lightweight snowshoes.
Over dinner, share stories, sip mulled wine, see nothing but stars and hear nothing but silence.
This wilderness exploration is the perfect way for non-skiers to explore the winter mountains on the South Island and enjoy the snow away from the crowded alpine skiing centres.
