Derwent Bridge is a small settlement in Tasmania’s Central Highlands, only 5 km from the visitor services area at Cynthia Bay, Lake St. Clair—adjacent to the southern boundary of the Cradle Mountain—Lake St. Clair National Park. It is the halfway point on the drive between Hobart and Strahan and being close to the state’s geographical centre, it is readily accessible by road from the north, south, east or west.
Derwent Bridge Chalets & Studios are ten 3½ star, self-catering units for couples, families and groups set in a quiet location looking on to an attractive snow gum forest. Two are superb spa chalets—just for couples—offering great comfort and privacy. Four 3½ star studios have been added for visitors seeking private, self-contained accommodation on a smaller scale than provided in the chalets. If you wish to dine out, it is located within easy walking distance of the Derwent Bridge Wilderness Hotel, just 700m from the property.
The Derwent Bridge Chalets & Studios complex is a growing concern, with the first chalet, Olympus, built in July 1992, followed by Rufus in February 1993, Ida in 1995, Byron in October 1998, Clair in November 1999, and William in December 1999. The four studios (named after local rivers) called ‘Hugel’, ‘Cuvier’, ‘Nive’ and ‘Narcissus, were built between 2002 and 2004.
Situated near the southern end of the Overland track in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park, this is the perfect place to rest in comfort after the long walk. The perfect place to soak your tired muscles and enjoy some good sleep in the comfort of this well appointed property.
‘Clair’ and ‘William’ are superb, romantic, luxury spa chalets perfect for two. They feature a queen size bed, wood heater, balcony and carport.
‘Ida’ is a romantic chalet for couples. It comes with a queen size bed, gas heater, balcony and carport.
‘Rufus’ is a cosy unit with enough space for up to four people, suitable for couples or small families. It comes with two single beds in adult size bunk style in a recess in the open plan living area, a wood heater, and deck.
‘Byron’ has two bedrooms suitable for either two couples (QS & KS beds) or one couple and three singles. It also has a balcony and carport.
‘Olympus’ is a spacious two-story house good for up to eight people. It comes with three bedrooms, a bathroom, two toilets, wood heater, sun deck and carport. (2 Night Minumum Stay)
Each Chalet has a Queen size main bed, an en-suite style bathroom, separate toilet, a wood heater (gas heater in ‘Ida’), full kitchen and laundry facilities, including a clothes dryer, a sundeck/balcony with outdoor furniture. Towels and linen are provided
A generous continental breakfast is available for $13 per person, or self cater if you choose. Dine out for lunch or dinner at the Derwent Bridge Wilderness Hotel only 700 metres away. Their meals will pleasantly surprise you.
The Studios feature a kitchenette, lounge, dining and TV, with en-suite shower/toilet and shared coin operated laundry.
These four near new 3 1/2 star studios provide excellent comfort and facilities for two persons wanting “value for money.”
Each Studio has off street parking, a covered deck with outdoor furniture, a Queen Size bed or two King Size single beds, electric blankets, private bathroom with vanity basin, shower, toilet, hairdryer, electric heating (not on a keytag switch) and a simple kitchen with jug, toaster, two hotplates, George Foreman Grill, saucepan, frypan, crockery, cutlery, and coffee plunger.
All beds are Queen Size with singles being King Size singles.

Each Chalet and Studio has a television with ABC, SBS and two commercial channels fed from a satellite dish, together with CD and DVD players.
