China is a mix of old and new but is a growing tourist destination. Hong Kong and Macau offer more freedom to the gay and lesbian traveller. Be aware that internet access is often restricted – but can be easily bypassed via the mobile phone network – or by the use of proxy server. Persons who are HIV+ are now allowed to visit China and you will find gay bars and clubs in the major cities.
