As most of the damage from the tsunamis that hit the Patong area of Phuket Island was concentrated on Beach Road itself, most of the gay venues have survived relatively untouched - all the bars, restaurants and accommodation in and around the Paradise area are operating normally; Patong Beach Bungalows was extensively damaged, Sea Hag Restaurant was also extensively damaged but Kenya hopes to have the restaurant back in operation in early February, Club 17 was also extensivelty damaged but the place will be restored to its former standard as soon as possible.
Life is returning to normal in most of Patong - electricity, water and food supplies are all OK, and beach cleaning in Patong is complete. Clearing of Beach Road is proceeding well though it will takes months or years to complete restoration of the buildings along the road and waterfront. The Phuket Gay Pride Festival 2005, has been re-scheduled to April 7-10, 2005 "out of respect for tsunami victims and families and tsunami related issues" - see the festival web site for more details.
