Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island.
This is the garden city of New Zealand and the gateway to the south island. Acres of central city space are devoted to parks enjoyed by the locals all year round. In the summer the city is radiant as it celebrates with music, festivals, flowers, opera and romance. Beyond Christchurch is the the beautiful French-influenced town of Akaroa located on Banks Peninsula. The port town of Lyttletown that can be reach either by the Lyttletown tunnel or over the scenic port Hills. 1.5 hours drive from Christchurch is the Mt Hutt skifields and the beautiful Southern Alps.
