Canberra is the government seat for the nation and the small area is called Australian Capital Territory. ACT is about open space; the traffic is still calm enough to hire a bike and ride around the wide, flat streets of the city without any worries.
The multiculturalism of Canberra’s restaurants has grown in recent years, with the food reflective not only of migration from diverse parts of the world, but also the vast array of international embassies and consulates in the city.
Canberra puts on a show of its local produce at the Old Bus Depot Markets on Sundays. Wentworth Avenue in Kingston is turned over to a multitude of crafts and old wares as well as fruit, vegetables and everything from pasta and satay sauces to cheeses and preserves.
Those in the know also enjoy the local wines. Just outside Canberra you’ll find award-winning cool-climate wineries that are quietly notching their way up the international scene.
