Hobart, with a deep-water port and a maritime history, is the capital of Tasmania and Australia’s second-oldest city. It straddles the Derwent River, with Mount Wellington as a magnificent backdrop to the city.
For a small city hovering around 200,000 residents, Hobart has a surprisingly large number of eating places, from the casual to the upmarket, many specialising in seafood complimented by local brews and wines.
Today Hobart has a thriving gay and lesbian scene, with one gay-owned dance club hosting Pride and other Community events.
